Personal ~ Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Book Lover, Housework Hater.
Professional ~ Author, Business Blaster, Speaker.
Default Setting ~ Mild Hysteria.
When my children were small, I wrote features and fiction for various magazines, was a columnist for Mother & Baby, and set up a home-based business supplying children’s party goods. I also trained as an ante-natal teacher.
All went well until the husband said if he opened one more cupboard and had several packs of Mr Men plates land on his head, he was leaving! Tough choice - but I opted for the husband and opened a shop and then a second, possibly the only ones where impatient customers were told to breathe in short pants and not push.
When I sold the shops, I moved into travel and set up a booking and planning service, specialising in off-the-beaten-track trips, to country inns in New England, USA. That proved popular, so I started publishing an annual accommodation guide which over ten years grew to take in unique properties all over the States and Canada.
After I sold that business to a large travel publisher, I dipped a toe into the world of vintage, trading in antique illustrated children’s books and greeting cards. The problem was once I started collecting - I couldn’t stop, and probably spent more time than was good for me ferreting in cobwebbed attics or scraping the bottoms of garage sale boxes. I also opened a copywriting consultancy.
With my store of images growing it seemed to me that so many of the ladies had something to say. As that was the business I was in I started writing copy lines for them which was how the Vintage Ladies Gift Books came about. I also write business books and paranormal thrillers.
